Facebook Facial Recognition will alert you when you appear in someones photo

Facebook has released new tools powered by its facial recognition technology - the same one that proposes friends to tag in photos. For instance, the original version of the tool would describe a friend's photo with the words which may contain: tree, sky, sea.

The enhanced version will include those and the possible names of people who could be in the photo even if they aren't tagged in the photo. Facebook's facial recognition can be a hit and miss, but the names can give visually impaired users a full view of the picture.

The Facial recognition tool will also start notifying users when its face recognition technology recognizes them in pictures even if they're not tagged, unless they're not part of the audience.

Finally, it will also start sending out notifications when someone else uploads your photo(s) as profile pictures. Facebook hopes this last tool can help prevent scammers from impersonation which is quite popular in Nigeria.
